the set-up.

Jarryd Williams has an impressive skiing pedigree – his mother, uncle and aunt all competed for Australian Teams in Europe and in the United States, while his grandfather managed two Alpine Winter Olympic teams in Calgary and Yugoslavia. Not surprisingly, Jarryd started skiing Mount Buller when he was three years old. Having skiied Buller back to front by age eight he was inclined to try this new ‘fandangled’ snowboarding that all the cool kids were doing. And after watching Danny Kass in the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, Jarryd was sure snowboarding was his future.

He spent a few years with the Mount Buller Race Club to develop his skills before making the jump to Halfpipe. Jarryd is a current member of the National Snowboard Halfpipe Development Team (run by the New South Wales Institute of Sport and Skiing & Snowboard Ausralia). He has competed at two Junior World Championships, as well as several USA Grand Prix’s and Revolution Tours among other non halfpipe competitions such as the Mountain Dew Hut Jam. Jarryd competes in Freeriding and Park but to achieve his goal of competing at the Sochi Games most of his time is spent riding Halfpipe.

In the past few years Jarryd has hit a few speed humps including a broken clavicle, two broken wrists (in the same accident) and a lacerated kidney…but according to J: “They are speed humps, not brick walls, and nothing will stop me from achieving my goals”.

Why “i ski from tommy.”

“Tommy was an incredible skier, a tremendous athlete, the life of any party and so much more. To see that get taken away so easily shows us how fragile life really is. I was only friends with Tommy for a few years before he died but in that short time I learned that Tommy had a life worth celebrating and a legacy worth perpetuating. By raising awareness of melanoma and raising funds for the VMS I hope that we can prevent other young people from having their lives cut so tragically short… that’s why “i shred for tommy.”
