isft. supporting melanoma research in Victoria…

With the Australian ski season coming to a close and summer creeping up, isft. are proud to finally announce that in addition to equipment supplied to the Victorian Melanoma Service (VMS), we now officially support melanoma research at the unit.

Currently, surgery remains the gold-standard in the management of primary melanoma.  New research is being undertaken by the VMS and the general surgical team at the Alfred Hospital to evaluate the appropriate amount of tissue necessary for excision around a melanoma to decrease the chance of disease recurrence.

Professor John Kelly, head of the VMS said, “These studies are aimed at at minimizing the extent of surgery required to clear a tumour… this will help those involved in melanoma treatment worldwide to better understand the role of a procedure that we undertake on every melanoma.  It may also tell us  how much skin should ideally be removed and which melanomas are likely to extend invisibly into surrounding tissue.”

isft. is proud to continually support the VMS in its existence as the only fully multidisciplinary melanoma treatment service in the state.  isft. extends its gratitude to all those who helped us fulfill this commitment by donating, purchasing merchandise, sporting the logo and embracing the culture.

Dan Portelli finishes Ambassadorship and steps up to management

Dan Portelli (right) alongside original ambassadors Katya Crema and Mike Rishworth.

This week, isft.‘s Daniel Portelli announced that he would step down from his ambassadorship in the setting of recently retiring from competitive snowboarding. Daniel will take up a managerial role at isft. He was one of the original three ambassadors and the only snowboarding representative on the team until the introduction of Jarryd Williams late last year.

During his 18 month tenure he won the 2010 Victorian Intervarsity Boardercross Championships.

He will actively take the reigns of the merchandising arm of isft.

When commenting of his transition to management, Dan said, “As an ambassador I was very proud to represent and promote the isft. brand. Having isft. stickers plastered everywhere during competition was one way of broadening the awareness of this great cause. My decision to retire from competitive snowboarding has provided me with the opportunity to accept a managerial role which will allow me to have more direct involvement in the future direction and success of isft. I look forward to working with the other members of the executive team as we continue to raise awareness of the dangers of melanoma.”

isft. extends its gratitude to Dan as he becomes the first name on an honour roll we hope extends into the future.

Thank you past ambassador Daniel Portelli.

2 generous donations and Nuttelex on board as our new sponsor…

Family owned company Nuttelex have made a show of support by gifting a “substantially large” donation to help fund the educational and merchandising efforts of isft.

Nuttelex is a  Melbourne based producer of polyunsaturated spreads and alternatives to butter. Operating for over 70 years, its products and the health benefits they confer continue to be endorsed by Australian doctors and health authorities. The company actively supports charitable initiatives across the country and have generously taken up the offer to come on board as an official, major sponsor of isft.

Founder Mark Cicchiello said, “It’s humbling to find that an established company such as Nuttelex see value in what we do. Thanks to them, isft.’s educational goal of producing a short-film profiling melanoma for free distribution to Victorian Schools is now achievable…we intend on directing much of our energy towards making this happen.”

Only weeks after this announcement to the managerial committee, a second show of support in the form of a $25,000 donation was made by The Chain Reaction Corporate Cycling Challenge. With a strong emphasis on supporting children’s health, this organisation raises and donates around one million dollars to Australian charities on a yearly basis. On the back of this second donation, isft. reiterated its commitment to developing an educational package for younger children.

isft. and chicks with stix

isft. is excited to announce a new affiliation with another group of snow-sports enthusiasts – Chicks with Stix (CwS).

CwS is a grass-roots organisation led by a bunch of devoted freestyle skiers that aims to provide encouragement and opportunities for young girls to help them become involved in skiing – bumps, freeride and big mountain.

In 2011, CwS will be rocking the isft. ethos; know the risks factors of melanoma, know how to avoid them and know what to do if you think you’ve got it.

The CwS coaches have been supplied with a limited range of completely exclusive isft. stickers with, you guessed it, pink highlights.

Colours aside – these girls are sweet and can shred with the best.

Proudly, our isft. Ambassador and Olympian Katya Crema is also a CwS chick.

Girls that join CwS  have an opportunity to watch, learn and improve their skiing and boarding skills in a safe and encouraging environment. Chicks with Stix provide an outlet for self-expression, social connection, self esteem and fitness.

With their perpetual stoke and positive values the CwS crew are a welcomed addition to the isft. family.
