VMS

The Victorian Melanoma Service (VMS) at The Alfred is an outpatient service for patients with biopsy proven melanoma (primary or metastatic). It is also the only fully multidisciplinary and tertiary consultative centre for the management of melanoma in Victoria.

The VMS brings together doctors from all the different specialties who are involved in the treatment of melanoma. They provide patients with advice and a plan of management that takes into account all aspects of their melanoma and its treatment. The VMS also conducts a large program of melanoma research, which is primarily clinical and aimed at facilitating early detection of melanoma. Much of the funds generated by isft. this year will be directed towards supporting this research.

The early detection of melanoma remains our primary method to prevent mortality as we still have no therapy other than complete removal of the primary tumour with a clear survival benefit.
